I have black stuff that comes out of my faucets when I run the water. It happens in different rooms and does not happen all the time. What would cause this?
Often times water will have large amounts of minerals that could change the color-especially if you are drawing from a well. Another cause of discoloration can come from having galvanized plumbing. Over the course of time, minerals will develop at the shut offs and gate valves of galvanized pipes and when you turn the water on those build ups, they’ll discharge out of the faucets.
Low Water Pressure
I have low water pressure on my kitchen sink but its ok everywhere else. What should I do?
If both hot and cold water are affected by low pressure then the problem can usually be pinpointed to the faucet itself. It could be a clog in the faucet housing or the aerator. We’d recommend checking the aerator first.
Drain and Sewer Lines
A pipe snake got stuck in our bathtub drain. We got it out, now the clog is much worse. We tried an air pump plunger, but we can’t get a seal on the overflow drain so it keeps going there at the T Junction. What should we do?
From experience the best way to snake a tub drain is directly from the overflow. Tubs will often clog in the P trap and the easiest access to reach it is the over flow.
Drain Care Products
Can I use ARMS Rooter drain care in a kitchen sink that has a garbage disposal?
Drain care is safe for garbage disposals and other plumbing fixtures because it is enzyme based. Our drain cleaning product is made of a mixture of good bacteria and natural enzymes that break down bio-degradable material, but are harmless to inorganic pipe materials like steel, copper and zinc.
Noise and Vibration
I am hearing a whistling sound that seems to be connected to the plumbing system. It comes and goes at times, but I can’t find the cause of it. What could cause this?
Vibration could be caused by high water pressure and pipes not being strapped properly on walls or under the house. Also, it could be caused if there is a water pressure regulator that may not be working properly. If that’s the case, you should have a professional tech come look at it.
My garbage disposal won’t turn on. What can I do?
First, you will want to make sure it’s plugged in properly. After that, try to unlock the disposal by using an Allen wrench that fits the Allen key hole on the bottom of the disposal. By turning that key, often times you can dislodge hard items from the blades. Once you have the disposal unlocked, turn it on and if its making loud rattling noises, unplug the disposal and carefully retrieve the hard object inside by hand.
